Part I: Mallrats
The Music
The current songs represent a large range of the band’s influences, ideas, and future directions – all while remaining true to the TLC ideals of memorable tunes, non-standard structures and thought provoking lyrics. The songs and their stories are listed below.
01. NYBD (New Young Broken Dreams)
First inspired by research on the mentally ill in Afghanistan (where 66% of the population is deemed to have mental disease), NYBD represents the heavy and the punchy, but also the experimental side to The Liar’s Chair.
This pilgrimage begins with bombs dropping then quickly turns into a call to arms, inciting the listener to stick their finger at what can seem to be the uncontrollable inevitable. Lyrics
02. Mallrats
A dancier, folkier tune about coming together as a community to fry some marshmallows over the glow of your favourite department store (whatever you take the term to mean) as it burns to the ground. Lyrics
03. Carseldine Hero
A fan favourite about losing what you took for granted – Carseldine Hero epitomises the moody, atmospheric direction the band is heading in. Lyrics
